(Thanks Al for pointing this out!)

From Publisher's Weekly:

No Christian faction, not liberals, mainliners, evangelicals or fundamentalists, escapes the smarty-pants treatment from this senior contributing editor of the religious satire publication, The Wittenburg Door. Garrison assumes a gentle "above it all" attitude, redirecting the church's attention to the Beatitudes and to Jesus' "great commandment" (to love God first and love others as ourselves). She also argues for renewed separation of church and state, noting Jesus' tendency to serve "as a prophetic voice to proclaim the Word of God without being a pawn of the Roman government." Garrison is especially tough on those who publicly claim to have God on their side. "Given that my last name ain't Falwell, Robertson, or LaHaye, I can't claim to speak for Christ," she states. But don't for a moment think Garrison blames all of life's problems on the religious right. She's blessed with the ability to observe, cringe at and poke fun at anyone who insists on a "correct Christian response" to complex social and political matters. If you like the Door's approach to the lighter side of Christian culture, or if you just need a good laugh after reading too many serious religion books, it doesn't get much better than this.

The Mullets and the Code...

Hasn't that hairdo been long dead and only remembered when one sees some 80's country music album, or a photo of Yanni? Didn't we stop using the term "Hairdo" a long time ago? I mean, really, who on earth would for a single moment consider themselves as grist for the Mullet mill?
And yet people do.

Similarly, who on earth would believe the Da Vinci Code's far-fetched, numerology-oriented tripe being peddled as fact?
And yet people do.
Why?

Here's my take;
I have found a secret meaning in the New Testament connecting both;

Believing false doctrine...
...and...
...Wearing a mullet hairdo.

I shall be forever grateful to the staff at the Chron....

Here's the connection. You see, in order for one to believe false doctrine, one must actually be looking for it. People do this all the time because they don't want to know real truth. The following text is from 2 Timothy 4:2-4 (KJV)...

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I ask the question; What must one posess in order to go after "strange fire"? According to the bible in 2 Timothy 4:3, one must have...
"Itching Ears".

Now here it comes... I ask you, What is the first sign of a new haircut?
"Itching Ears".

AAAAAA-HAH!

So, you see now how clearly the scripture forecast this tragic, global conspiracy far in advance of anyone even hearing the term "Mullet".

Don't panic! I'm stll alive!

Whoa! Has it been that long? Once again my inclination toward total absorption and obliviousness to the world has taken hold. Even potential posts have evaporated into the ether between mind and blog...

What have I been doing instead? Well...

  1. Spring-cleaning for Lent. Harnessing the best of winter to good use.

  2. Reading the regular abortion posts by Becky (and occasionally others) that come to life

  3. Notions of Bible Studies for the infamous Sheaf cartoon as predictably the religious ranted, the skeptics scoffed, and nothing substantial happened (Yawn!)

  4. Other stuff I'm sure I can't recall right now, although at the moment I'm discovering The Goodies as well as a video of Leonard Nimoy singing about Bilbo Baggins. Enjoy!

Forget Sacrificing Chocolate...

NEW ORLEANS -- While Christians across the world give up chocolate, alcohol and coffee for Lent, Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans announced today he made the painful decision to give up the entire City of New Orleans for 40 days or so.

"I love New Orleans and I love thinking about this city," said Nagin. "So, as an act of penance, for the next 40 days, I am going to take my family back to our other home in Dallas, and not think about New Orleans at all. It will be painful. This will be a lot like the act of penance I performed last year during Hurricane Katrina."

As part of his Lenten fast, Nagin said he will not do any economic development brainstorming, or meet with governmental or business officials. After a day of participating in Fat Tuesday parades, his last order of business Tuesday night was making copies of his business plan, "The Chocolate Milk Analogy," at a 24-hour Kinko's on Canal Street. {read the rest here}

If one can't generate transforming spaces, what's the point of transgressing boundaries or reconciling differences?

What is the difference between a self-defeating devotion and a self-serving delusion?

Do you externalize and conform to a civil, religious or cultural identity, becoming uncomfortably explicit?

Do you generalize so thoroughly that you're rendered ineffective?

Do you compensate, attempting to get better, and just seem to become exotically inferior?
