Peace

(a poem written by me, April 1, 2003)

We once were vampires, grasping life,
To beat it down, and bury it deep,
So hungry for eternity.
We once were addicts, consuming life,
To stop the walls from closing in
Which squeeze our hearts so small.

We once were lovers, embracing life,
To take it in, and be fulfilled,
To capture for all time.
We once were artists, transcending life,
To rise above this world we share,
That binds us down with chains.

Yet life would not come down to us
And give us meaning for this world;
So then we fought, to make this life,
Be present in our midst;
Yet life bled down, to take our place,
When our lives had stopped forever.
